Dr. S. K. Memorial Young Scientist Award -2024

Dr. S. K. Ghosh Memorial Young Scientist Award for best three research paper (published or presented in public seminar) on Meteorology and Allied Sciences for the author below 40 years of age as on 1 ^st January, are given annually on 23 ^rd March of the relevant year.

The Indian Meteorological Society, Kolkata (IMSK), in its endeavour to recognize an original contribution of early-career scientists in the field of meteorology and allied sciences, has instituted the Dr. S. K. Ghosh Memorial IMS Kolkata Young Scientist Award. This award is to honour and recognize the fundamental contributions towards processes and development of meteorological sciences for societal benefits.

Dr. Subir Kumar Ghosh was the Deputy Director General of Meteorology, India Meteorological Department who had made significant contributions to the development of meteorology in the country. One of his many commendable contributions is his work in Russian Expedition of Monsoon (MONEX) to study upper air circulation. His extensive research work has been awarded by Vikram Sarabhai Gold Medal in 1979. This award is co-sponsored by the South Asian Institute for Advance Research and Development (SAIARD), Kolkata. SAIARD, a Research and Knowledge hub, started its journey with a broad vision and objectives to promote research and advocacy on education and innovative ideas through publications, various outreach program, collaborations and partnerships for sustainable and cognitive development in this region. This is awarded for the scientific contributions by the researchers below the age of 40 years in the fields of meteorology and allied sciences in India.

The Award consists of a citation and cash prizes of Rs. 5,000/, Rs. 3000/- and Rs.2000/- respectively. The award is awarded annually on 23 ^rd March. The nature of contributions should be such that it has significant impact on the growth of meteorological science and its applications in the country.

Best Paper: Citation and Rs.5000/-
Second Best Paper: Citation and Rs.3000/-
Third Best Paper: Citation and Rs.2000/-

Candidates are invited to submit the completed Application Form with the following:

• Provide a CV detailing your eligibility as an emerging researcher and to help assess the place of the submitted project within your research career, including dates and locations of academic achievements and research career to date.
• Provide a Forwarding Letter from the Supervisor/ Guide of the submitted research paper including information supporting your suitability for the award in terms of originality of the research, supporting the application.
• A copy of the Full Paper (PDF) is to be submitted along with the application form.
